
Excel 2003: Viewing Spreadsheets
By utilizing some the views listed below, you can enter and edit data on several worksheets simultaneously and perform calculations based on data from more than one worksheet.

Compare Spreadsheets Side by Side
- Open the spreadsheets you want to compare side by side
- On the Window menu, click Compare Side by Side with (name of the other spreadsheet)

View Multiple Sheets or Spreadsheets at the Same Time
- Open the first spreadsheet you want to view
- In the same Excel session, click File then Open to open the additional spreadsheets
- On the Window menu, verify that all the spreadsheets you want to view are listed in the open file section. If not, ensure that the spreadsheets were open using the same session
- While on the Window menu, click Arrange
- Under Arrange, click the view option you want and then OK.
To view sheets in only the active workbook, select the Windows of active workbook check box.
Freeze or Lock Rows and Columns
You can view two areas of a worksheet and lock rows or columns in one area by splitting or freezing panes (pane: A portion of the document window bounded by and separated from other portions by vertical or horizontal bars.).
Splitting Panes
When you split panes, you'll be able to scroll in both areas of the worksheet, while rows or columns in the non-scrolled area remain visible.
- To lock rows, select the row below where you want the split to appear. To lock columns, select the column to the right of where you want the split to appear. To lock both rows and columns, click the cell below and to the right of where you want the split to appear
- On the Window menu, click Split. For a quick way to split panes, point to the split box at the top of the vertical scroll bar or at the right end of the horizontal scroll bar.

Freezing Panes
When you freeze panes, you select specific rows or columns that remain visible when scrolling in the worksheet.
- To lock rows, select the row below where you want the split to appear. To lock columns, select the column to the right of where you want the split to appear. To lock both rows and columns, click the cell below and to the right of where you want the split to appear
- On the Window menu, click Freeze Panes
